Radiosonde comparison of ERA5 and ERA-Interim reanalysis datasets over tropical oceans

چکیده

After the release of ERA-Interim reanalysis, many changes have been made to Integrated Forecasting System model and data-assimilation system, resulting in an improved ERA5. One allows version ERA5 represent moisture sensitivity deep convection more realistically than ERA-Interim. A previous modeling study showed that this change alone representation tropical atmosphere, e.g. variability precipitation distribution. Here we compare vertical structures average temperature over oceans ERA5, radiosonde observations see whether is also closer for those regions variables. Our results reveal at levels, relative humidity differ from observations, however generally low-to-midtroposphere. Most notably, stations, on colder ∼550-800 hPa. Large gradients occur profile mean difference between ∼700-900 hPa, but are absent Relative differences not as robust differences, stations moister ∼650-800 hPa while there. Below ∼950 hPa-level observations. Our indicate deviates It seems plausible deviation is, least partly, due newer formulation organised entrainment associated mechanism sensitivity. However, extensive evaluation needed understand reasons reanalyses observations.

Observations of precipitable water vapour over complex topography of Ethiopia from ground-based GPS, FTIR, radiosonde and ERA-Interim reanalysis

Water vapour is one of the most important greenhouse gases. Long-term changes in the amount of water vapour in the atmosphere need to be monitored not only for its direct role as a greenhouse gas but also because of its role in amplifying other feedbacks such as clouds and albedo. In recent decades, monitoring of water vapour on a regular and continuous basis has become possible as a result of ...

ERA-Interim/Land: a global land surface reanalysis data set

ERA-Interim/Land is a global land surface reanalysis data set covering the period 1979–2010. It describes the evolution of soil moisture, soil temperature and snowpack. ERA-Interim/Land is the result of a single 32-year simulation with the latest ECMWF (European Centre for MediumRange Weather Forecasts) land surface model driven by meteorological forcing from the ERA-Interim atmospheric reanaly...

Downscaling reanalysis over continental Africa with a regional model: NCEP versus ERA Interim forcing

Five annual climate cycles (1998-2002) are simulated for continental Africa and adjacent oceans by a regional atmospheric model (RM3). RM3 horizontal grid spacing is 0.44° at 28 vertical levels . Each of 2 simulation ensembles is driven by lateral boundary conditions from each of 2 alternative reanalysis data sets. One simulation downs cales National Center for Environmental Prediction reanalys...

Analysis of moisture variability in the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts 15-year reanalysis over the tropical oceans

[1] We compare European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts 15-year reanalysis (ERA-15) moisture over the tropical oceans with satellite observations and the U.S. National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) National Center for Atmospheric Research 40-year reanalysis. When systematic differences in moisture between the observational and reanalysis data sets are removed, the NCEP d...

Wave energy resource of Brazil: An analysis from 35 years of ERA-Interim reanalysis data

This paper presents a characterization of the wave power resource and an analysis of the wave power output for three (AquaBuoy, Pelamis and Wave Dragon) different wave energy converters (WEC) over the Brazilian offshore. To do so it used a 35 years reanalysis database from the ERA-Interim project. Annual and seasonal statistical analyzes of significant height and energy period were performed, a...
